The Austrian Archdukes Albrecht and Isabella are depicted during a visit to the studio of the painter (and diplomat) Pieter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) in Antwerp.

The almost translucent depiction of Rubens’ first wife Isabella Brant is striking. She had already passed away at the time of the visit, but this depiction represents her ‘presence’ at the reception.
