This uniform of senator Henri Carton de Tournai, senator between 1919 and 1925 and from 1936 to 1946, is an example of the dress uniform as worn during special ceremonies until about 1920.

As with other ceremonial dress uniforms of the time, it was elaborately decorated.

With the democratisation of the right to vote and the relaxation of the conditions for eligibility, this custom disappeared.
